BEIJING — Avalanches have struck high on the slopes of the Tibetan mountain Shishapangma as more than 50 climbers were making a push for the summit, killing an American and Nepalese mountaineer, China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported. Shishapangma, at just over 8,000 metres, is the world's 14th tallest peak. It is widely regarded as one of the easier mountains of that height, known among climbers as the "eight-thousanders". Two avalanches hit its slopes at elevations of 7,600 metres and 8,000 metres on Saturday (Oct 7), killing American climber Anna Gutu and Nepalese guide Mingmar Sherpa, Xinhua reported on Sunday.

Dame Judi Dench fired her agent on the spot after she was dropped 80 feet (24 metres) into a pool of water at a theme park. The 87-year-old star has recalled how she once went to Universal Studios, where she was advised to board a ride, but she didn't realise the outcome would see her plunging into water. With the Dragon Boat Festival just around the corner, rice dumplings, also known as bak zhang, are flying off the shelves.  One man surnamed Lin thought that he got his at a good deal at $2 per dumpling, considering that the average price is around $4  these days. But instead of him being able to save a few dollars, a whopping $6,000 was wiped out from his bank account overnight, reported Shin Min Daily News.  The 43-year-old man reportedly saw a promotion for the dumplings on Facebook and wanted to order 15 pieces.
