Idaho State Police Emphasize Patrol Efforts This Weekend To Combat Distracted Driving
Idaho State Police plan distracted driving emphasis patrols through the weekend. 'Distracted and inattentive driving is a leading cause of crashes in the United States and Idaho. The economic and human costs of these crashes take a major toll on families, friends, and our communities,' says Patrol Lieutenant Robert Rausch in District 4. 'Among the most observed instances of distracted driving are the use of cellular devices, which takes attention away from the task of driving. Unfortunately, there are often tragic consequences.

Dogs and Incarcerated Men help give each other a second chance
Orofino, ID- 'Let's Pray', is one of the many tricks that dogs learn while attending the PAWS program in the Idaho Correctional Institution in Orofino (ICIO). This program is a special avenue that gives both the dogs and incarcerated men themselves a second opportunity. Lewis Clark Animal Shelter selects dogs that may have behavioral/ socialization or obedience issues who will benefit from training to make them more adoptable. These dogs often come into the shelter as strays, are surrendered, or rescued due to abuse.

Boosting Student Support on Idaho's College Campuses
Idaho State Board of Education- The early years of college can be overwhelming for new students. Many don't yet know what their major will be so they focus on general education courses like first year writing, college algebra and introduction to biology, which for some can feel like barriers to progress. 'Instead, we like to think about general education as a way to help students become life-long learners,' said Dr. Heidi Estrem, the State Board of Education's associate academic officer. 'General education offers students space to be curious about subjects they care about and also time to grow to be curious about subjects that they did not expect to learn.
